What are Ankle socks?

Months and years pass by, winter followed by autumn, spring, and summer keep coming and at times we’re so caught up in the daily chaos of life that we forget to shop for the seasons. Spring is around the corner and in this, it is important for us to have the perfect ankle socks.

What are ankle socks?

Ankle Sock are socks that end exactly at the ankle bone or before the ankle bone and cover the entire foot. Since ankle socks end exactly at the ankle bone, they are frequently seen when wearing low-top trainers. They are not quite as long as micro crew socks, but they are a little taller than no-show socks. The very top of the sock is frequently visible above the shoe at this height.  In comparison to crew length and longer socks, these are mostly worn and preferred by people during the hot blazing months of summer. This is because they absorb a lesser amount of heat on the lower leg. However, when we think of ankle socks we think about those basic and boring two to three colors that are work-appropriate. They can nevertheless be just as whimsically colored and fashioned as their larger counterparts. These are the most used and worn socks by people for exercising hiking, or everyday wear.

Styling ankle socks:

Your ankle socks are mostly seen with the shoes you wear, therefore you must avoid Style Faux Pas. The following are some do’s and don’t to follow when styling your favorite ankle socks.

Variety of colors:

When we think of buying socks we think of buying only two to three basic colors i.e. blue, black or white. However, sometimes it's important to step out of your comfort zone and opt for those fancy colorful socks as well. Colorful and different designs of socks would give spark to your simple outfit at times. It would overall change the look of your attire. In addition to this, wearing colorful socks shows a bold and creative personality.

A must with sneakers:

Sneakers have proved to be the most famous footwear. Till date, brands like Nike and Adidas have been making sneakers that steal people’s hearts compelling them to buy. Therefore, the socks that you pair these shoes with also play an important role. Ankle socks were initially crafted to wear with these sneakers and hiking shoes. Due to this, Nike and Adidas started making their own ankle socks. A  pro tip that we give is to look for some with tabs on top to keep the socks from falling down. The tab on the socks also prevents the emergence of blisters and avoids unusual rubbing and itching.

Sandals and Crews:

There’s no bigger fashion flub than wearing socks with sandals. Even though these socks are smaller in size, that doesn’t mean that sandals have to go with them. But admit it or not we’re big fans of socks with Birkenstocks or Chacos. Therefore, we recommend wearing colorful crews with these.

Coordination is mandatory:

If you pick funky or bright-colored socks make sure that you pick an outfit similar to your socks. For eg: wearing orange socks with shoes that possess orange detailing would make your overall outfit look better as compared to wearing them when there’s no coordination.

Different materials:

Ankle socks are made using a variety of different materials; each material helping to give different characteristics to a single pair of socks. Every sock industry has one main and common goal which is, to provide socks that are not only soft but also moisture-wicking. For the production of socks, there are many options but the most important natural existing fibers are cotton and wool while synthetics are nylon, acrylic, and polypropylene.

Cotton:

We all have once in our lifetime seen those cotton plants and thought, does cotton really come from these plants? Well, that's true cotton is a natural fiber that is indeed grown from these plants. Due to its distinctive characteristics of being soft, featherweight, and durable, it is used mostly in both athletic and dress socks. As mentioned earlier these cotton socks are then combined with other materials to ensure elasticity. It is important to note here that generating cotton can be a very water-intensive process so recycled cotton is used by industries.

Wool:

Animals that are sheared help in the production of wool. The coats of the animals when sheared and spun into a yarn give us wool. The unique characteristic of wool over other materials is its excellent ability to not  hold much moisture. This makes it perfect for hiking and skiing in extremely low temperatures. Another advantage of wool is that it keeps one warm during a severe cold. However, like cotton is combined with other materials, wool is also combined to make it softer as wearing 100% pure and premium wool socks can be scratchy.

Synthetic:

There are many names for synthetic yarns. They’re commonly known as polyester, polypropylene, acrylic, nylon, and more. These are always included in the production of socks as they provide elasticity. Our suggestion for you is to avoid 100% synthetic material socks. This is because they aren’t breathable as they do not include natural fibers. Furthermore, they’re not good and suitable for the environment since synthetic materials are made using chemicals.

Features of excellent quality ankle socks:

When it comes time to replace your socks, avoid purchasing generic, low-quality pairs. Choosing products made for comfort during activity and leisure will benefit your feet. When purchasing ankle socks, keep an eye out for the following:
